Telangana State High Court Advocate Karuna Sagar on Thursday robustly defended the rejection of Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan's Rajya Sabha nomination, arguing that the Congress party’s decision to appeal to the Supreme Court was merely a 'political stunt.' Speaking to ANI, Sagar emphasized that the returning officer’s decision rested on sound legal principles.
'The Congress party's decision to challenge the rejection in the Supreme Court is based on grounds that are legally justified,' stated Sagar. He detailed the reasons for rejection, highlighting issues such as an incomplete Form 26 affidavit, non-disclosure of pending legal proceedings, concealment of critical information, and failure to rectify identified defects.
Sagar criticized the Congress for turning a procedural legal issue into a political spectacle. Sagar further questioned the rationale behind the Congress party's legal strategy of moving directly to the apex court, bypassing procedural norms. 'The Supreme Court is currently in recess, and the Congress has only recourse through Article 32 for urgent matters, which necessitates prior attempts at the state level,' he noted.
