In a significant governmental shift, South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has removed several high-ranking officials, including Semeya Kumba as foreign minister and Atong Kuol Manyang as trade minister, as reported by the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation.
The announcement, made late Wednesday, also detailed the dismissal of Mawien Mawien Ariik from his role as director general of the Internal Security Bureau, with Akec Tong Aleu appointed as his replacement. No reason for the changes has been publicly disclosed.
Analysts suggest that such reshuffles are a strategy employed by Kiir to consolidate power, especially as the country faces ongoing armed conflicts and speculation grows around his eventual succession plan.
