In a dramatic turn of events, Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera has taken his legal battle against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to the Supreme Court, labeling Sarma a 'constitutional cowboy' over incendiary remarks related to a criminal case involving Sarma's wife.
The Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on Khera's anticipatory bail plea following the Gauhati High Court's rejection. Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi argued that Khera risks unfair treatment if arrested, calling it a politically motivated move against the Congress leader.
Tushar Mehta, representing the Assam government, countered Khera's claims by saying that the allegations were backed by doctored documents and that custodial interrogation was crucial to uncover any foreign involvement in the supposed defamation case.
