In a high-profile hearing, a special court in Assam denied the bail application of Shyamkanu Mahanta, the main suspect in the case involving the death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg. The decision was made on Thursday by Special Fast-track Court Judge Sharmila Bhuyan, who highlighted the potential risk of flight.

Garg, who tragically passed away while swimming in Singapore last September, was in the city for the North East India Festival's fourth edition organized by Mahanta. Following extensive investigations, Assam Police's SIT charged Mahanta and six others, while observing that he left for Malaysia post-incident, raising concerns of him evading justice.

Public Prosecutor Ziaul Kamar expressed satisfaction with the court's ruling, stating that Shyamkanu Mahanta's behavior post-incident diminished his chances for bail. Meanwhile, the Singapore authorities indicated no evidence of malicious intent in Garg's drowning incident, contrasting with the Assam investigation's murder charges.
