Mali Under Siege: Military's Complicity Unveiled Amidst Rising Insurgency
Military officers in Mali were found colluding with jihadis and separatists in the country's largest attacks in over a decade, leading to strategic losses, including a military camp in Tessalit. The junta faces increasing challenges as insurgents block routes to the capital, amidst a vow for retaliation.
Mali faces escalating conflict as authorities reveal that certain military officers collaborated with jihadis and separatists, launching significant attacks across the nation. The Azawad Liberation Front claimed control of a strategic military base in Tessalit, previously held by Malian forces and Russian allies.
The withdrawal from Tessalit marks a deteriorating situation for Mali's ruling junta, which already lost control of Kidal earlier this week. The assaults, coordinated by al-Qaida-backed groups and separatist fighters, intensified with nearly simultaneous attacks on several locations, including the capital's international airport.
Authorities have implicated high-profile military personnel and politicians in the attacks as tensions rise. Meanwhile, insurgents have implemented blockades on key roads to Bamako, tightening their grip on the capital and affecting travel and transit operations significantly.
