New Leadership for Gangtok Municipal Corporation
Tshering Palden Bhutia and Sara Lama have been elected as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation, respectively. The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party, after winning the majority of seats in the municipal elections, takes charge with promises of effective governance and sustainable urban development.

In a recent election, new leadership has taken the helm of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation. Tshering Palden Bhutia of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) was elected Mayor, and Sara Lama was elected Deputy Mayor.
The election results, which were boycotted by opposition parties, showed a decisive victory for the SKM, securing 19 out of 21 seats in the corporation. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang emphasized the significant responsibility on these leaders to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.
The new administration is expected to prioritize infrastructure development and sustainable urban growth, responding to the needs of an evolving city. Similar leadership changes took place in the Namchi Municipal Council, with Ganesh Rai and Saraswati Sharma assuming key roles.
