In a significant breakthrough, police in Dakshina Kannada district apprehended two individuals, Mohammad Sameer (28) and Mohammad Irfan (26), involved in a counterfeit currency racket. During the bust, officers seized fake notes totaling Rs 2.38 lakh, along with mobile phones and a vehicle allegedly used in the illegal operation.
The arrests, made in Bantwal taluk, resulted from a targeted operation following tips about fake currency being circulated in the area. The confiscated notes were mostly in higher denominations, pointing to an attempt to infiltrate the local economy.
A senior police official stated that the accused were likely part of a larger network distributing counterfeit money across districts. Authorities have launched an extensive investigation to track the origins and distribution channels of the fake currency, aiming to dismantle the racket entirely.
