Milestone Achievements: Hindu Representation in Pakistan's Federal Civil Service
Two men from Pakistan's minority Hindu community, Jeevan Rebari and Khem Chand Jandora, have qualified for Pakistan's federal civil service. Despite historical underrepresentation, these individuals have achieved notable success. Their journeys emphasize the challenges faced by minorities and the importance of efforts to improve inclusivity in government roles.
In a significant development, two individuals from Pakistan's Hindu minority community have successfully passed the rigorous selection process to join the country's federal civil service. Jeevan Rebari and Khem Chand Jandora, both hailing from the Sindh province, made it to the final list of candidates eligible for the Central Superior Services (CSS), a notable achievement given the historically low representation of minorities in government positions.
Despite a population of 3.8 million Hindus in Pakistan, primarily residing in Sindh, minority representation in federal civil service exams has been scarce. This prompted the government to announce initiatives, like a special training program set for 2025, to fortify inclusivity. The Federal Public Service Commission reported that out of 12,792 candidates appearing for the exams, 355 passed, with 170 ultimately selected.
Highlighting the personal sacrifices made on this journey, Khem Chand's parents resorted to taking high-interest loans and selling family jewelry for his education. In contrast, Jeevan Rebari, who did not utilize the minority quota, relied on community support and government education to reach this milestone. These stories stand as a testament to resilience and the ongoing struggle for equal representation.
