Baramulla MP, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, known as Engineer Rashid, appealed to the Delhi High Court on Monday. He requested a modification of his interim bail conditions, which currently confine him to Srinagar, in order to visit his ailing father relocated to AIIMS Delhi from Srinagar.
The court, led by Justices Prathiba M Singh and Madhu Jain, had initially allowed Rashid one-week interim bail but restricted him to Srinagar. Rashid's senior counsel highlighted that he owns a flat in Delhi, yet the court opposed granting permission to reside there due to potential security issues surrounding housing other MPs.
The National Investigation Agency's counsel contended Rashid could visit his father from jail under custody parole. Rashid's legal team noted urgent health concerns necessitating his father's transfer, citing the court's restrictions as a barrier. Rashid, implicated in a 2017 terror-funding case, remains under arrest in Tihar Jail following charges under the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
