The Bombay High Court has granted bail to Surendra Gadling, an activist embroiled in the long-standing Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case. The decision comes after considerations of Gadling's extensive incarceration and the indefinite delay in the trial proceedings.
Justice A S Gadkari, who led the bench hearing Gadling's petition, emphasized that all other individuals accused in this high-profile case have also been released on bail. Therefore, extending the same relief to Gadling aligns with principles of parity and fairness within the judicial process.
The Elgar Parishad case, now running its course for over eight years, has drawn widespread attention since several prominent figures, including lawyers and activists, were implicated. The case involves a series of speeches alleged to have sparked violence at Koregaon-Bhima and originally prompted investigation by the Pune police before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over.
