In a decisive move, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered the dismissal of a junior engineer from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department after a tragic incident involving a two-year-old girl. The minor fell into an open drain in Mukundpur, leading to her untimely death.
The incident, described by Gupta as distressing and alarming, occurred on April 3 after the drain was left uncovered post-desilting. The young victim's family attributed the tragedy to negligence by civic officials. In response, Gupta declared the lapse as unacceptable and imposed strict measures.
Following the chief minister's instructions, the department swiftly terminated the engineer's contractual employment. Gupta further instructed all departments to audit open drains and other hazardous areas, warning that negligent officials would face severe consequences.
