Russian military strikes on eastern Ukraine have resulted in at least 25 casualties, with 12 occurring in one of the most severe attacks this year. The assault happened just before Kyiv proposed an open-ended ceasefire, set to start at midnight on Wednesday.
Russia had earlier declared a ceasefire for May 8-9, aligning with its World War Two victory celebrations in Moscow. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the temporary halt, pressing for a sustained ceasefires. Attacks included the city of Zaporizhzhia, where aerial bombs and drones killed at least 12, leading to multiple injuries.
Other targeted locations were Kramatorsk and Dnipro, with casualties reported and extensive damage inflicted. Meanwhile, Russia faced its loss from a Ukrainian drone attack in Chuvashia. Both nations continue to grapple with violence as diplomatic solutions seem distant.
