The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) launched a series of raids on Wednesday, targeting nine locations across four states, as part of an extensive investigation into the trafficking of Indian nationals. The victims were promised lucrative jobs overseas but were instead forced into cyber scams in Southeast Asia.
According to official sources, the CBI’s probe revealed that individuals were transported to countries like Myanmar and Cambodia, where they became victims of 'cyber slavery'. Victims faced severe movement restrictions, passport confiscation, and physical and psychological harassment, with many having to arrange ransom payments for their release.
The agency conducted thorough searches across various cities and districts, including Mumbai, Delhi, and Lucknow, recording victim statements and performing detailed financial analysis, tracking cryptocurrency transactions. These efforts led to the arrest of a suspect in Lucknow, accused of facilitating the trafficking operations.
