Amidst mounting pressure, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has firmly denied any wrongdoing in response to the Supreme Court's order for a preliminary inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The probe targets allegations of corruption involving public works contracts linked to his family members.
The Supreme Court's directive, following allegations that contracts were awarded to family-associated firms between 2015 and 2025, has fueled public protests. Arunachal Civil Society President Byabang Joram has led demonstrations demanding Khandu's resignation to ensure an impartial investigation, though Khandu emphasizes the importance of ethical, non-violent protest.
Khandu, who has previously eschewed personal legal representation, insists he remains committed to transparency. He affirms support for the CBI inquiry, which he perceives as politically motivated, and highlights his decade-long efforts to combat state corruption. The inquiry will investigate potential conflicts of interest, including contracts awarded to firms associated with Khandu's family.
