Security arrangements for Abhishek Banerjee, a senior TMC leader and MP for Diamond Harbour, have been partially withdrawn in Kolkata. Despite the unchanged Z plus-category police protection, additional police presence outside his Harish Mukherjee Road residence and Camac Street office has been removed following a review.
This withdrawal includes the removal of scissor barricades, police vans, and baggage scanners, with police kiosks and sheds expected to be dismantled soon. Altered protocols mean no advance route checks by police vehicles are required before Banerjee's travel, as confirmed by officials.
Local residents have welcomed these changes, citing years of movement restrictions due to the extensive security setup, which was perceived to resemble prime ministerial protection in West Bengal.
