A TMC councillor, Amirul Sekh Islam, was apprehended at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport for possessing live ammunition without the necessary documentation. The incident occurred during a routine baggage check in September 2025.

Islam, a councillor of Ward 14 in Pujali municipality, was stopped after six rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition and an empty magazine were found in his luggage. Despite claiming to have a valid licence, he failed to provide documentation within the allotted time.

Legal proceedings have been initiated under the Arms Act, following his arrest on Tuesday. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violation.
