A major drug haul in Gujarat has led to the recovery of numerous packets containing charas, a concentrated cannabis resin, amounting to a value in crores of rupees. The discovery spans across Kutch and Devbhumi Dwarka districts, according to police announcements on Thursday.
Security agencies have ramped up patrols in the sensitive border areas adjoining Pakistan in anticipation of potential cross-border smuggling activities. Recently, the Border Security Force's 176 battalion found ten packets during creek patrolling in Kutch. This discovery contributes to the over 40 drug packets retrieved from the Kutch coastal regions last week.
Charas, deemed illegal under India's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, was also found weighing 4 kg near the Devbhumi Dwarka district's coastal areas. These packets, worth approximately Rs 2.3 crore, were likely abandoned by smugglers due to increased interception efforts by security units in the area.
