The Latur administration has permitted the supply of diesel in approved barrels and drums to government and private hospitals as well as other essential medical services in the district, an official said on Thursday. The order was issued during the day by the collector's office following representations submitted by Latur Petrol and Diesel Association and Indian Medical Association, he added. ''As per the order, fuel pumps holding valid licences under Petroleum Rules 2002 will be allowed to supply diesel in barrels or drums approved by the Chief Controller of Explosives. However, the administration has strictly prohibited the sale of diesel in plastic cans or unauthorised containers,'' the official said. Fuel pump operators have been directed to verify documents related to hospitals or healthcare services before supplying diesel and maintain proper records of such transactions, he said. The administration has also made it mandatory to follow strict safety measures during fuel handling, including switching off vehicle engines, prohibiting smoking near fuel dispensing areas, and ensuring fire safety equipment remains ready for use, the official added. ''The collector has warned that strict action would be taken against pump operators violating provisions of Petroleum Act 1934 and Petroleum Rules 2002. Penal action under Section 23 of the Act will be initiated against those found flouting regulations,'' he said.
