Delhi records highest value of stolen property among UTs in 2024: NCRB

The NCRB data showed that across all Union Territories, property worth Rs 750.9 crore was reported stolen in 2024, of which property worth Rs 130.1 crore was recovered, resulting in a recovery rate of 17.3 per cent.

Delhi recorded the highest value of stolen property among all Union Territories in 2024, even as the national capital saw a marginal improvement in its recovery rate compared to the previous year, according to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data. The NCRB's 'Crime in India 2024' report showed that property worth Rs 671.4 crore was reported stolen in Delhi in 2024, while property worth Rs 105.0 crore was recovered, resulting in the recovery rate of 15.6 per cent. In 2023, property worth Rs 688.6 crore was reported stolen in the national capital, of which Rs 99.7 crore was recovered, taking the recovery rate to 14.5 per cent. The data also showed that in 2022, Delhi recorded property theft worth Rs 624.1 crore, while recoveries stood at Rs 106.3 crore, translating into a recovery rate of 17 per cent. Among the Union Territories, Delhi accounted for the largest share of the total value of stolen property as well as recoveries in 2024, the report stated. The NCRB data showed that across all Union Territories, property worth Rs 750.9 crore was reported stolen in 2024, of which property worth Rs 130.1 crore was recovered, resulting in a recovery rate of 17.3 per cent. Under this category, stolen property generally refers to items taken through offences such as theft, snatching, burglary, robbery, dacoity and other property-related crimes. The category includes a wide range of valuables and assets, including motor vehicles, motorcycles, scooters, light motor vehicles, three-wheelers, electronic gadgets, mobile phones, cash, jewellery, cycles, cattle and several other miscellaneous items.
