Two people, including a woman, died and two others were injured after a speeding truck allegedly hit multiple vehicles and pedestrians in Punjab's Hoshiarpur district on Friday evening, police said. The deceased were identified as Ashwani Kumar, a resident of Ahiyapur village, and Harbhajan Kaur of Miani village in the Tanda area, they said. According to police, the incident took place near Gurdwara Sri Pul Pukhta Sahib on the Tanda-Miani road around 5.15 pm. Ashwani Kumar was travelling on a motorcycle along with his wife and two daughters towards Miani when he stopped near the roadside and was attempting to cross the road when a speeding truck coming from the Tanda side hit him, killing him on the spot, police said. After the accident, the truck driver allegedly continued driving recklessly and hit Harbhajan Kaur, who was returning after performing voluntary service at the gurdwara. She also died on the spot, they said. The truck later rammed into a Maruti Ertiga car carrying seven persons, injuring its driver, Sarwan Singh of Passi Bet village, police said. The driver then allegedly hit another motorcycle rider, identified as Avtar Singh alias Kala of Miani village, leaving him seriously injured, they added. The injured were initially taken to government hospitals at Dasuya and Tanda, from where one of them was referred to Hoshiarpur due to his critical condition. Tanda SHO Gurinderjit Singh Nagra said the truck and its driver were later apprehended and further legal proceedings were underway.
