Gurugram Court Issues 20-Year Sentence in POCSO Rape Case

A Gurugram court has sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for the rape of a 14-year-old girl in 2022. The conviction follows a thorough investigation and charge sheet filed by police under the POCSO Act and related sections, alongside a fine of Rs 35,000.

A court in Gurugram has handed down a 20-year sentence to a man convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl last year, as confirmed by the local police. The incident, reported on September 2, 2022, took place on August 30, when the victim's father filed a complaint.

Subsequently, the police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and related sections. The accused was soon apprehended, and law enforcement conducted a thorough investigation, collecting compelling evidence and testimonies that contributed to the charge sheet.

On Monday, the court found the evidence and testimonies persuasive enough to deem the accused guilty, resulting in his sentencing to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹35,000, as noted by a spokesperson from the Gurugram Police.
