The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has assumed control over the investigation into the murder of Chandranath Rath, an aide to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Officials declared the formation of a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) aiming for a comprehensive probe.
The CBI’s SIT, led by a DIG-rank officer, focuses on unraveling potential conspiracies and examining interstate criminal connections involved in the crime. The murder, deemed a 'planned assassination' by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), occurred shortly after their electoral victory in West Bengal.
Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, linked via a UPI transaction. Forensic evidence suggests advanced planning, with forged vehicle documents crucial to the investigation. Authorities pursue understanding the mastermind, financier, and motives behind Rath's killing.
