Justice Prevails: Accused Acquitted in Chain Snatching Cases

In a recent verdict, two men were acquitted by a special MCOCA court in Kalyan in cases of chain snatching. The court held that previous charge sheets were insufficient evidence for conviction. Despite being accused of being part of an organized crime group, the evidence lacked credibility.

A special MCOCA court in Kalyan acquitted two men accused in three separate chain-snatching cases. The court ruled that the collection of previous charge-sheets could not establish guilt under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act.

Judge V G Mohite found Jaykumar Komal Rathod and Gazi Dara Irani, both residents of Ambivali, not guilty of the crimes. The orders, issued on May 8 and 11, were disclosed early this week.

Represented by Advocates Saghar Kolhe and R B Kavare, the defendants faced charges related to incidents at Mahatma Phule Chowk Police Station. The prosecution failed to prove that the accused were linked to an organized crime syndicate led by Irani.
