NIA Intensifies Probe: Massive Explosives Seizure in Kerala

The National Investigation Agency has intensified its investigation into the substantial seizure of gelatin sticks and detonators in Kerala's Malappuram district. The explosives were discovered hidden in an onion-laden truck during a police raid.

Initially handled by local authorities, the case revealed that 89,600 gelatin sticks were packed in 448 boxes, accompanied by 10,500 non-electric shock tube detonators. This alarming find prompted the agency to seek jurisdiction from the Judicial First Class Magistrate-I court in Parappanangadi, aiming for trial proceedings at its special court in Kochi.

The explosives are believed to be linked to illegal quarrying activities. Originating from Bijapur, Karnataka, a detailed investigation into their distribution network is underway. Before this major haul, authorities seized a similar cache in Palakkad, hinting at a broader issue.
