Mumbai's Deputy Mayor, Sanjay Ghadi, has issued a directive requiring all shops and establishments, including five-star hotels and celebrity outlets, to display signboards in Marathi within a month.
Ghadi emphasized the mandate for Marathi signboards in Devanagari script, referencing Supreme Court guidelines. He warned of 'Shiv Sena-style' actions should establishments fail to comply.
Out of nine lakh establishments, 5,020 are yet to follow the rule. The BMC has already penalized 3,114 entities, collecting Rs 1.91 crore. Non-compliant officials may also face consequences.
