Ceasefire Amid Conflict: Lebanon and Israel Face Off in Washington Talks
Lebanon will urge Israel to cease fire during face-to-face talks in Washington amid ongoing conflicts with Hezbollah. Despite a U.S.-backed truce declared in April, hostilities persist. Both nations are expanding their delegations for this round of meetings, seeking resolutions to their longstanding tensions.
In a pivotal meeting held in Washington, Lebanon is set to demand a ceasefire from Israel as their conflict with Hezbollah continues to escalate, despite a U.S.-backed truce. This is the third face-to-face encounter between the two nations since renewed hostilities erupted in March.
Lebanon's stand is supported by a rise in casualties reported by its health ministry, with 22 fatalities, including eight children, due to Israeli strikes. The Lebanese delegation's main aim is to ensure that Israel upholds a ceasefire, amid rising violence in southern Lebanon.
This high-level Washington meeting paves the way for potential peace talks, as both nations broaden their delegations. It's a significant step as Lebanon and Israel have not engaged at this level for decades, indicating a critical moment for potential conflict resolution.
