Tensions and Diplomacy: A Struggle Over the Strait
U.S. President Donald Trump discussed the ongoing Iran conflict with China's President Xi Jinping as tensions heightened near the Strait of Hormuz. The conflict's implications on global trade and diplomacy are escalating, with multiple incidents threatening stability. Efforts for peace remain stalled amid complex geopolitical negotiations.
U.S. President Donald Trump and China's President Xi Jinping discussed the escalating conflict with Iran during a Thursday meeting in Beijing. Both leaders agreed that the Strait of Hormuz should remain open and reiterated that Iran should not acquire nuclear weapons, amidst new attacks in the region.
In parallel, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that China may assist in keeping the strait open, a strategic interest for Beijing. However, U.S.-Iran peace talks stalled last week as both countries rejected each other's proposals.
The closure of the Strait by Iran, after U.S. and Israel's bombing campaign, has caused major disruptions to global energy supplies. Despite a temporary pause in bombing, the U.S. continues to blockade Iranian ports, as reports of attacks on vessels in the area increase.
