The regional office of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has requested a comprehensive report from the Himachal Pradesh government on its 'anti-chitta' initiative. This move aims to evaluate the model's effectiveness and explore its potential application in other states to enhance anti-narcotics efforts nationwide.
Himachal Pradesh's anti-chitta strategy includes strict legal action against drug traffickers and dedicated rehabilitation for those affected by substance abuse. By leveraging the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, the state has detained 174 offenders and seized illegal properties worth Rs 51 crore.
In a pioneering effort, the state has categorized areas based on chitta prevalence and initiated community-driven solutions. With measures like drug-free campus campaigns and anti-drug cells in educational institutions, Himachal Pradesh sets a new benchmark for combating the drug menace at grassroots levels.
