The Supreme Court has instructed a Bengaluru court to hasten proceedings in the Renukaswamy murder case, which involves actor Darshan and others. The court criticized the slow pace of the trial, highlighting that only ten of the proposed 60 key witnesses have been examined so far.
A bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and Vijay Bishnoi highlighted the need for the state to ensure that Darshan receives the necessary prison amenities. The court warned against unnecessary adjournments in the trial and suggested examining witnesses on a day-to-day basis if needed, aiming to observe progress within a year.
The case stems from the alleged abduction and torture of Renukaswamy, a fan accused of sending inappropriate messages to actress Pavithra Gowda. The sessions court observed that Darshan, reportedly held in quarantine conditions, denies claims of isolation. The top court previously revoked Darshan's bail, demanding swift trial proceedings.
