A Nigerian national identified as Uchenwa has been apprehended in Delhi by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) for allegedly orchestrating a cyber fraud scheme, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The modus operandi involved creating fake profiles of US and UK citizens on social media platforms, enticing Indian users through promises of luxurious gifts and foreign currency, and subsequently extorting money under the guise of customs duty and taxes.
This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on active Nigerian cyber fraud gangs, with investigations taking place following a complaint by a Lucknow resident. Efforts are underway to identify other culprits involved in this racket.
