Gurugram Police have apprehended three Nigerian nationals accused of defrauding people by posing as women on social media platforms, officials announced on Saturday.
The suspects were found with 19 mobile phones, one laptop, and 18 Indian and international SIM cards in their possession. This arrest followed a complaint filed last year by a man who claimed he was cheated out of Rs 69,900 by a woman he met on Instagram who allegedly needed the money for registration fees at Mumbai airport.
The arrested individuals, identified as Chinedu, James Sunday, and Jules Cacau, were presented in court and placed under police remand. Investigations revealed that some of the accused entered India illegally from Bangladesh or on study visas. Charges under the Passport Act and the Foreigners Act have been filed against them.
