Democratic Pulse in Himachal: High Turnout in Local Body Elections
In Himachal Pradesh, a significant turnout was observed in municipal elections with over 72% polling in councils and nagar panchayats, and 63.61% in municipal corporations. The voting process was peaceful, with women voters surpassing men in some districts. The votes for municipal councils are being counted, and corporation votes will be declared soon.

A strong democratic spirit was witnessed in Himachal Pradesh as local body elections recorded a notable voter turnout. Over 72% of the electorate cast their votes in the municipal councils and nagar panchayats, while municipal corporations saw a turnout of 63.61%, according to State Chief Election Commissioner Anil Khachi.
The polling was conducted peacefully across 51 urban local bodies, including Dharamshala, Solan, Mandi, and Palampur. Interestingly, more women participated compared to men in some districts, highlighting their increasing involvement in the democratic process. A total of 1,147 candidates contested for 449 posts.
Voting machines for municipal corporations have been secured under tight security. Among the voters was 92-year-old former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar, who reiterated the importance of electing honest leaders to eradicate corruption.
