Polling for 51 urban local bodies, including the Municipal Corporations of Dharamshala, Solan, Mandi, and Palampur, kicked off on Sunday with officials reporting a smooth process. According to State Chief Election Commissioner Anil Khachi, a significant 54 percent of voters turned out by 1 PM.

The polling was slated to conclude at 3 PM, yet those already queuing were assured the chance to vote. Excited voters, with a visible female majority, lined up since morning as polling began at 7 AM. Participation rates were 16 percent by 9 AM, climbing to 34 percent by 11 AM, and eventually peaking at 54 percent by early afternoon.

Counting for Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats will commence post-polling, with Municipal Corporations' results following on May 31. Among the early voters was former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shanta Kumar, urging citizens to select honest leaders to combat corruption. The polls attracted 1,147 candidates across 449 positions, representing over 360,000 eligible voters.
