A 70-year-old man named Brahamdev Bhagat, who allegedly severed the thumbs of an event manager during a violent robbery and extortion scheme in Delhi's Dwarka, has been apprehended after nearly six years on the run, according to police officials.

The incident, which took place on March 17, 2020, involved the victim, Surinder Nanda, being assaulted with sticks and robbed at knifepoint. Nanda was forced to sign documents related to a dubious Rs 11 lakh payment and had his thumbs brutally chopped off by the accused.

Declared a proclaimed offender in 2025, Bhagat was finally nabbed in Purnia, Bihar, following a tip-off. He confessed to the crime, revealing he had been evading arrest by frequently changing his location.
