The Enforcement Directorate has intensified its crackdown on alleged land grabbing and extortion activities by arresting Biswajit Poddar, also known as Sona Pappu, on Monday evening. This arrest follows the detainment of a senior Kolkata Police officer linked to the case.
Poddar, who had been on the run since the investigation began, turned himself in to the ED and was subjected to nearly nine hours of intensive interrogation before being taken into custody. An official mentioned that Poddar demonstrated a pattern of non-cooperation during the probe.
The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into a broader network of criminal activities involving land grabbing and fraud. Poddar is slated to appear in a special court on Tuesday, as the case continues to unravel. Previous arrests include businessman Joy Kamdar and Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Santanu Sinha Biswas.
