7-year-old dies after getting trapped in lift

A seven-year-old boy, Shivansh Shailesh Dhut, died after getting trapped in a lift at a residential society in Wadgaon Budruk, Pune, on Monday evening.

A seven-year-old boy died after getting trapped in a lift at a residential society in Wadgaon Budruk area here, police said on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Shivansh Shailesh Dhut, a resident of Siddhi Society in Nimbajnagar.

The incident took place at around 10 pm on Monday.

According to police, Shivansh was playing on the society premises when he apparently entered the lift alone, and got trapped between its outer wooden door and inner grilled door as it started.

''When the boy did not return home for a long time, residents began searching for him and later found him trapped inside the lift,'' an official said.

Fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the child, but he was declared dead before he could be shifted to hospital.

An accidental death case has been registered and further probe is on, said Senior Police Inspector Vinayak Patankar.
