Members of the Delhi Gymkhana Club breathed a sigh of relief as the Centre assured the Delhi High Court of no immediate and forceful eviction on June 5. Ex-servicemen and staff, dependent on the historic 113-year-old club, were anxious about an impending order to vacate.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta clarified before the court that any eviction proceedings would follow due legal process, easing fears prompted by the Centre's earlier 13-day notice. Club members, including Shivam Bhatia and retired Major Atul Dev, welcomed this as a significant relief.

The court instructed the Centre and the club management to respond to petitions challenging the eviction notice, highlighting a demand for the 27.3-acre land for defense and public security. The legal battle continues, but members feel assured of a fair process.
