The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has voiced concerns over a special investigation team from Punjab Police, alleging that the team is exceeding its brief while investigating the disappearance of 328 'saroops' of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib. SGPC leader Harjinder Singh Dhami has accused the police of meddling in the internal affairs of the religious body's administration.

Dhami expressed that, under the guise of the inquiry, efforts are seemingly directed at undermining the established role of the SGPC, which represents the Sikh community's spiritual leadership. Despite the SGPC's full cooperation and dedication to transparency with the investigation as per the Akal Takht's guidelines, Dhami claims that the investigation is unjustly including SGPC's internal matters as part of its focus.

He detailed that the request for financial account information and past agreements for 'Gurbani Kirtan' broadcasts are irrelevant to the inquiry into the missing holy texts. Furthermore, Dhami highlighted repeated demands for previously submitted data, suggesting possible ulterior motives by the investigators.

This dispute emerges after the Amritsar police lodged a case in December 2025 regarding the missing sacred copies.
