Decades in Hiding: Former Red Army Faction Member Sentenced
A German court sentenced former Red Army Faction member Daniela Klette to 13 years in prison for armed robberies. Klette, 67, evaded capture for decades after the group's violent activities in the 1970s. She was found by an investigative journalist using facial recognition. Police seek her two accomplices.
Daniela Klette, a former member of the infamous Red Army Faction, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison by a German court for multiple armed robberies. The court's decision marks a notable chapter in Germany's pursuit of justice for crimes linked to the extreme-left group.
Klette, aged 67, was on the run for over thirty years, adopting an assumed identity in Berlin. Her capture in 2024, attributed to the sharp investigative work of a journalist using cutting-edge facial recognition technology, concluded a lengthy period of evasion concerning her militant past.
As part of the Red Army Faction's third generation, Klette was involved in a series of violent acts targeting the state's capitalist framework in the 1970s and 1980s. Although the group ceased its activities in 1998, authorities continue to pursue remaining members, including accomplices Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg.
