The Supreme Court's recent endorsement of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process has been met with approval from ruling NDA leaders in Bihar, who accuse opposition figures of trying to mislead the public and tarnish the Election Commission's reputation.
Sanjay Saraogi, heading the state BJP, asserted that opposition figures like Rahul Gandhi attempted to deceive voters during rallies ahead of the 2025 assembly elections. He also accused Mamata Banerjee's previous administration in West Bengal of opposing the SIR to safeguard 'Bangladeshi infiltrators.'
Additional comments from JD(U) legislature party leader Shrawon Kumar emphasized that opposition parties attempted to undermine the Election Commission through false information. The court's verdict, he believes, serves as a significant rebuke to such actions.
This decision marks a significant win for the Election Commission, with the Supreme Court affirming its authority to carry out the SIR process, underscoring its role in upholding the constitutional requirement for unbiased elections. The SIR was particularly relevant in Bihar, where it was executed before the last assembly elections in November.
