CBI Takes Custody of Samarth Singh in Twisha Sharma Case

Samarth Singh is now in CBI custody as the investigation into Twisha Sharma's death progresses. The CBI re-registered the case, initially handled by Madhya Pradesh police, which involves allegations of dowry harassment. The High Court reserved judgment on the anticipatory bail plea of Singh's mother, Giribala Singh.

Samarth Singh, husband of the deceased model-actor Twisha Sharma, has been remanded to the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by a Bhopal court. The CBI took this step as it deepens its inquiry into the tragic death of Sharma.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court, based in Jabalpur, has delayed its judgment regarding pleas to revoke anticipatory bail for Samarth Singh's mother, former judge Giribala Singh. Last Monday, the CBI assumed control of the investigation, initially started by the Madhya Pradesh police, by re-registering an FIR naming the Singhs as accused.

An earlier arrest had placed Samarth Singh, a practicing lawyer, into police custody following the actions of a state police Special Investigation Team, but his custody now shifts to the CBI as it assumes responsibility for the case. Documents and custody have been transferred to the federal agency, and they have already moved to inspect the Singh household as part of their investigation.

The CBI will continue to explore allegations regarding dowry demands and domestic abuse faced by Sharma, following sections outlined in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act. Twisha's family claims her in-laws subjected her to such stresses over dowry, which took a toll on her mental health, contributing to her tragic departure.
