Ramesh Chennithala, Kerala's Home Minister, labeled the recent aggressive action against Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials as a deliberate conspiracy by CPI(M) members. The incident occurred when ED officials were conducting a search at a property associated with former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, following allegations of financial impropriety.
According to Chennithala, the attack outside Vijayan's rented residence was orchestrated to disrupt public order under the UDF administration. He assured that all individuals implicated in the attack would face strict legal consequences irrespective of their status or political affiliation.
The Home Minister also highlighted that although the ED's raids were not pre-communicated to the Kerala police, they managed to respond promptly to the gathering crowd. He sounded a cautionary note against attempts to incite unrest, especially given the new government's recent uptake of office.
The ED's investigation involves scrutiny of financial exchanges between a sand mining company and a now-defunct firm owned by Vijayan's daughter, Veena. Officers argue this transaction, amounting to Rs 1.72 crore, was executed without legitimate services rendered. Arrests of several individuals ensued following investigations at multiple locations across Kerala.
