Modi Government Enhances Poverty Alleviation Initiatives with Advanced Technology

The Modi administration is merging technology with poverty alleviation schemes, with the Union Cabinet approving Rs 25,530 crore for the second phase of SARTHAK-PDS, aiming to improve transparency and efficiency in public distribution through technology-driven solutions.

The Indian government has announced significant advancements in its poverty alleviation initiatives by infusing them with cutting-edge technology. Union Cabinet's recent approval of Rs 25,530 crore for the SARTHAK-PDS Phase-2 underscores the goal of achieving transparent, tech-driven enhancements in the public distribution system.

According to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, these initiatives will leverage AI-enabled databases, GPS tracking, and QR code tagging to deliver benefits like affordable grains directly to beneficiaries across the nation. Shah highlighted that these efforts also aim to support states' logistic costs and enhance fair price shop operators' earnings.

This five-year extension of SARTHAK-PDS, running through March 2031, reflects the government's commitment to integrating existing food distribution programs under a unified framework. This overhaul seeks to strengthen delivery mechanisms, reduce leakages, and ultimately improve resource management under the National Food Security Act.
