Sanctions Reinstated: Francesca Albanese Back on U.S. Treasury List

The U.S. has re-added Francesca Albanese, a U.N. expert, to its sanctions list. Originally sanctioned for actions against U.S. and Israeli entities, her name was removed briefly before a federal appeals court reinstated it, scrutinizing alleged violations of free speech after her Gaza war criticism.

The United States has reinstated sanctions on Francesca Albanese, a United Nations expert on Palestinian territories, as noted on the U.S. Treasury's website this Wednesday.

Initially sanctioned in July 2025 for her actions urging the International Criminal Court to pursue U.S. and Israeli targets, Albanese had her sanctions temporarily lifted in May. This followed an injunction sought by her family, arguing free speech violations due to her criticism of Israel's actions in Gaza.

However, this week, a U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit panel issued an administrative stay, effectively re-enforcing the designation despite ongoing legal proceedings.
