The United States military has conducted another strike against a vessel suspected of drug smuggling in the eastern Pacific Ocean. This operation, which took place on Wednesday, resulted in the death of two individuals aboard the boat.

Footage shared by the US Southern Command on social media shows the boat engulfed in smoke and flames following the explosion. This follows a similar incident the previous day where US forces targeted another suspected drug boat, killing one and leaving two survivors.

Since early September, the Trump administration's aggressive campaign has focused on dismantling alleged drug-trafficking operations in Latin American waters, leading to the destruction of several vessels and numerous casualties. However, the military has yet to provide concrete evidence that these boats were indeed carrying drugs.

In response, the Pentagon's inspector general has launched a review to determine if the military adhered to an established targeting protocol, known as the Joint Targeting Cycle, during these operations. This self-initiated review will not assess the legality of the strikes, despite growing criticism from Democratic lawmakers and military legal experts.

The Trump administration maintains that these actions are part of a broader war against Latin American drug cartels, which are blamed for the increasing number of drug overdose deaths across the US.
