Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator Varun Sardesai has alleged that a public park in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) area is being misused as a private space for Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials. Sardesai has urged Maharashtra's Chief Minister to investigate the matter.
According to Sardesai, the approximately five-acre City Park in BKC, developed by MMRDA, provides exclusive access to officials and their families residing in nearby staff quarters. He claims that premium recreational amenities are not available to the public despite being funded by taxpayers.
The MLA highlighted that exclusive events for MMRDA officials allegedly take place within this publicly funded park. Sardesai termed the situation a misuse of authority and public resources, calling it a violation of transparency.
He has pressed for a governmental probe into the access restrictions at the park and for suspending involved officials during the investigation. Furthermore, he demands that documents regarding park operations be disclosed and public access be reinstated.
