Ajay Kochhar Named 48th Vice Chief of Indian Navy

Ajay Kochhar, notable for his role in elevating naval combat readiness during Operation Sindoor, has assumed the position of the 48th Vice Chief of the Indian Navy. His appointment brings extensive frontline experience to the top echelons of the naval command.
Previously, Kochhar led the Andaman and Nicobar Command, India's premier joint services theatre, which guards important maritime zones. As Chief of Staff for the Western Naval Command, he advanced the Navy's strategic asset deployment under Operation Sindoor. This newly appointed Vice Chief replaces Sanjay Vatsayan, now Chief of the Western Naval Command.
Kochhar began his distinguished career in the Indian Navy on July 1, 1988. With a strong background in gunnery and missile systems, he has commanded numerous vessels, including the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, and played a crucial role in its operational capabilities. His accolades include prestigious awards such as the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal.
