The Supreme Court of India has mandated that high courts deliver judgements within a three-month window after reserving their orders, highlighting the detrimental impact of delays on litigants. The directive emphasizes swifter decisions, especially in matters related to personal freedom.

Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justice Joymalya Baghchi, set forth several guidelines following concerns over delayed judicature postings. Orders concerning bail should be determined on the same day, while reserved rulings must be issued and made available the following day.

The court asserted that any orders on bail or sentence suspensions should reach jail authorities promptly, enabling the release of affected individuals within a day. Under Article 142 of the Constitution, the Supreme Court also decreed that even if only the operative judgment is declared, a comprehensive verdict must be shared within 15 days.

The bench further clarified that if a judgement isn't delivered within four months, parties can petition the high court's Chief Justice to reassign the case. The Supreme Court clarified that these directions aim to ensure efficiency without targeting specific judges or court decisions.
