The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has announced a new initiative to integrate retiring judges into its community by extending them honorary memberships. During the farewell function for Justices J K Maheshwari and Pankaj Mithal, SCBA President Vikas Singh highlighted the significance of this step in maintaining judges' ongoing engagement with the legal fraternity.

The announcement was made as Singh addressed the assembly, emphasizing that despite judges' retirements being a bittersweet moment, this approach promises continued interaction with their wealth of knowledge and experience. Attorney General R Venkataramani praised the retiring judges for their valued contributions to the judiciary, noting their enduring dedication and judicious impact.

Justice Maheshwari, known for his institution-building efforts and compassionate rulings, retires on June 28. Justice Mithal, celebrated for his clarity and wisdom, will demit office on June 16. The SCBA's decision allows them to remain connected with the apex court beyond their official tenure.
