The Shakumbhari Devi temple in Saharanpur is temporarily closed following fatal flash floods. Two women lost their lives, prompting officials to shut the temple until May 31. The floods caused significant damage to the surrounding areas.
The river near the temple experienced a sudden surge, sweeping away over a dozen vehicles, including machinery such as JCBs and cranes. Temple manager Aditya Pratap Singh explained that the decision to close the temple was in response to an advisory from the weather department.
Authorities visited the site to evaluate the damage and organize relief efforts. Meanwhile, devotees have been urged to avoid traveling to the temple until conditions improve. If the weather stabilizes, plans are in place to reopen the temple on June 1.
Local administrative and police officials, alongside political representatives, expressed their condolences for the fatalities and are actively working on recovery efforts.
